Pre-launch

The compliance co-pilot for Indians who earn in dollars.

Freelancers and agencies in India who work for foreign clients lose hours — and lose sleep — to tax paperwork. Setulfo does the boring, scary part for them automatically, without ever touching their money.

✨ AI reads your documents
🧾 Correct export invoices
⏰ Never miss a deadline
✅ Filing-ready in one click
"Setulfo" — setu means bridge in Hindi; it's the bridge between getting paid and staying compliant, keeping everything flowing smoothly.
The problem

Getting paid by a foreign client is easy.
Staying legal afterwards is a nightmare.

When an Indian freelancer bills a client in the US or UK, the government treats it as an "export of services." That unlocks a maze of rules most people don't understand — and getting them wrong means penalties, frozen bank accounts, and tax notices.

In plain words: The work pays well. The paperwork behind it is confusing, repetitive, has strict deadlines, and is genuinely frightening to get wrong — so people either overpay a CA, or do it badly and hope for the best.
What actually goes wrong

Six traps, all on repeat

📅

The LUT deadline

A form you must re-file every April. Miss it, and every foreign invoice that year suddenly owes 18% tax.

📎

Chasing FIRA proof

For every payment you need a bank certificate proving the money came from abroad. Most gateways don't hand it over automatically.

🧾

Invoices done wrong

Export invoices need special wording, codes, and a rupee-conversion column. One wrong field causes problems later.

"Do I even register?"

Foreign income secretly counts toward the ₹20 lakh limit — people cross it without realising and get caught out.

🏦

Frozen bank account

Receiving foreign money in a personal account gets it flagged and frozen. Few know they need a current account + correct code.

🗂️

Filing season panic

Even at 0% tax you must still file returns — pulling together a year of scattered invoices and documents by hand.

The customer

Indians who live here — but earn in dollars

This is the key insight. Regular Indian customers resist paying for software. But these people earn in foreign currency, so they pay like their Western peers — and they have the exact same problem the West does.

$2–5k+/mo
typical earnings — they can easily afford a small monthly fee
Millions
of Indians freelance for foreign clients, and the number keeps rising
Same pain
abroad
so the product later works for US/UK freelancers too
The solution

One place that quietly handles all of it

Setulfo is a co-pilot, not a pilot.

It sits on top of the tools people already use (Wise, Payoneer, their bank). AI reads your documents, drafts your invoices, and explains things plainly, while a strict rules-engine handles the exact legal math. It tracks every deadline and hands over a ready-to-file packet. The human still steers the big decisions — Setulfo does the endless busywork around them.

The analogy: A lawyer makes the judgment calls; a paralegal fills the forms, organises the file, and never forgets a court date. Setulfo is the paralegal — in software. You'd never fire the paralegal just because you have a lawyer.
The workflow, step by step

From "client pays" to "fully compliant"

1

Quick setup

A friendly AI chat asks a few plain questions to understand your setup; the rules-engine then decides if you must register for GST and notes your LUT status.

✨ AI + rules
2

Say it in a sentence

Tell Setulfo "bill Acme $1,500 for the logo redesign" and it drafts a fully compliant export invoice — correct wording, SAC code, and rupee-conversion column included.

✨ AI + rules
3

Client pays

Money lands via Wise, Payoneer, or direct bank transfer — exactly the way it already does today. Setulfo never touches it.

External rail
4

Upload the proof

Drop in the bank/Wise/Payoneer PDF. AI reads it, pulls out amount, date, and sender, and matches it to the right invoice automatically.

✨ AI
5

Deadlines watched for you

LUT renewal, the FIRA realization window, GST filing dates — all tracked silently, with reminders before anything is at risk.

Setulfo
6

Dashboard

One screen shows what's Done, Due, and At-risk — and a filing-ready packet waits whenever it's time to hand off to your CA.

You / your CA
How to read it: Setulfo sits in the middle; each step is a chore it takes off the freelancer's plate. The ✨ AI steps handle messy human input; the rest run on exact rules. The money and final decisions always stay with the human.
See it in action

Meet Aditi, a designer in Pune

😩

Without Setulfo

She finishes a $1,500 logo project. Googles "how to invoice foreign client," copies a template, gets the tax wording wrong. Forgets to download her FIRA. In April, she misses her LUT renewal — and learns in December she now owes 18% on the whole year. Spends a frantic weekend and ₹8,000 on a CA to clean it up.

😌

With Setulfo

She clicks "new invoice" — it's correct instantly. After the client pays via Wise, Setulfo pings: "grab your FIRA," and files it automatically. In March it reminds her to renew the LUT. At tax time, one tidy packet is waiting. Total effort: a few clicks a month. Total panic: zero.

The point: Same income, same tools for getting paid — but the fear and the wasted hours are gone. That is what she pays for.
The role of AI

AI does the messy human parts. Code does the exact legal parts.

AI is the friendly translator at the front — it understands messy input and speaks plainly. A strict rules-engine sits at the back and does the tax math the same correct way every time. The user feels a smart assistant; the risky parts run on boring, auditable rules.

🤝 AI at the front (the worker)

  • Reads your documents: upload a Wise/Payoneer/bank PDF → AI pulls out amount, date, sender & matches it to the right invoice
  • Writes your invoice from a sentence: "bill Acme $1,500 for a logo" → a ready draft
  • Explains in plain English: "what is an LUT and why do I need it?"
  • Drafts the boring text: payment reminders, notes for your CA, monthly summaries

⚙️ Code at the back (the rulebook)

  • The legally-required invoice wording & SAC codes
  • The rupee-conversion & all number math
  • "Do you need to register?" / deadline logic
  • Anything where a wrong answer = a penalty
Why this matters: AI makes Setulfo delightful; the compliance rules & trust make it defensible. We apply AI to a hard, specific, real problem — we are not "just an AI wrapper." The moat is the domain knowledge; AI is what makes it feel effortless.
Where we draw the line (this is a feature)

What Setulfo deliberately does not do

These limits aren't weaknesses — they keep us out of heavy regulation, let a small team move fast, and are exactly why big payment companies can't easily copy us.

✓ What we do

  • Prepare correct invoices & documents
  • Track and remind on every deadline
  • Organise proof and compile filing-ready data
  • Explain things in plain language

✕ What we never do

  • Touch the money → so we need no RBI payment licence
  • File to the govt portal for you → so we need no special filing licence
  • Give binding tax advice → the CA keeps the judgment calls
  • Replace your bank or Wise/Payoneer → we sit on top of them
In plain words: We do the 95% that's boring and mechanical. The 5% that needs a human — the money and the judgment — stays with the human. That line is our legal safety and our focus.
Why now

The timing lines up

📈

More global freelancers

Remote work made "Indian talent, foreign client" normal — the customer base is large and growing fast.

💳

Payment rails matured

Wise, Payoneer, Skydo solved getting paid. Nobody solved the compliance layer sitting on top of them.

🤖

Cheap to build now

A tiny team can build and run this affordably — the paperwork itself is perfect for automation.

The gap: The money-movers are busy being regulated banks. The CAs are busy being humans. The software co-pilot in between is wide open.
The landscape — honestly

Two camps exist. Neither sits across your money.

There are players here — we're not claiming empty space. But each is tied to one lane, and the gap between them is real.

💸

Payment rails

Skydo, Karbon, Xflow, Wise. Auto-FIRA + invoices — but only for money passing through their own account. Use two rails and neither sees the full picture.

📚

Accounting tools

Refrens, Zoho, GimBooks. Generic GST invoicing & filing reports. No LUT tracking, no FIRA-realization tracking, not built for the export workflow.

🧑‍💼

The CA

Does the judgment, hates the busywork. Not a rival — a sales channel that brings us clients in batches.

The wedge nobody fills: a payment-agnostic compliance brain that sits on top of every rail + your bank — one place tracking your LUT deadline, watching the 1-year realization rule, and reconciling every invoice to every payment, no matter how it arrived. The rails can't easily copy this — they only see their own transactions; we see all of them.
What could go wrong — and our answer

The three honest risks

We'd rather name these than pretend they don't exist. Each has a real strategy behind it.

🆓

Rivals give it free

Risk: rails bundle FIRA/invoicing free (they earn on FX). Answer: we charge for the cross-rail compliance brain they can't offer — value that stands on its own, priced on peace-of-mind.

🏗️

Incumbents expand

Risk: a payment rail adds LUT tracking themselves. Answer: they only see their own rail. Our whole point is the freelancer who uses several — structurally hard for a single rail to serve.

🧩

Feature, not a company?

Risk: maybe this belongs inside a payment app. Answer: exactly what validation must prove — will people pay for it separately? We test before we build.

Why say this out loud: investors trust a founder who names the incumbent threat over one who claims open field. Knowing the risk is step one to beating it.
Why this is defensible

The moat is knowing the rules cold

Anyone can build a form. Very few will deeply learn India's export-of-services rules, encode them correctly, and keep them updated as laws change. That hard-won knowledge — plus the trust that comes from getting it right — is the wall.

Honest note: "We're good with AI" is not a moat — everyone is. Deep domain knowledge and trust are. That's what we're building.
How we reach the first users — for free

The customers gather in known places

  • Communities: r/developersIndia, r/freelanceIndia, r/IndiaTax, indie-maker groups, Discords, Twitter/X — full of people hitting this exact wall
  • Helpful content: plain-English guides to LUT / FIRA / GST that rank on Google and build trust
  • CAs as partners: each CA brings a batch of freelance clients at once
  • Word of mouth: compliance fear is talked about — a tool that removes it gets shared

Beachhead first

Win Indian freelancers narrowly and completely before expanding. Same product structure then extends to agencies, then to US/UK freelancers — one wedge, then widen.

New · Phase 2 feature

Setulfo Connect — for when someone really needs a CA

Setulfo does the boring 95% automatically. But sometimes a freelancer hits a moment that really needs a real accountant — registering for GST the first time, an audit, a scary notice. Right now they just Google "CA near me" and hope for the best. Setulfo Connect gives them a trusted CA instead of a random gamble — and it's good for everyone involved.

When it shows up: we don't push a CA on every user. It only appears at real "you need a professional now" moments — first GST registration, a notice, an audit, or if someone simply asks for help. Everyone else just keeps using Setulfo on their own.
Good for everyone, not just us

Three people win, not just one

🧑‍💻

The freelancer

No more picking a random CA off Google and hoping. They get matched with someone who already knows this exact problem — foreign clients, FIRA, LUT, export GST.

🧑‍💼

The CA

A steady flow of new clients who already have their paperwork organised (thanks to Setulfo) — so less back-and-forth and an easier start than a client they find cold.

🧭

Setulfo

A second way to make money that doesn't rely only on people paying a monthly fee — and it makes CAs even more likely to recommend us to their other clients.

How it works, step by step

From "I need real help" to "talking to a CA"

1

Setulfo notices you need help

A real moment — first GST registration, a notice, an audit. Not a random pop-up trying to upsell you.

Setulfo
2

You say yes

Setulfo tells you plainly what happens next — including that it may earn a small fee from this — before connecting you to anyone.

You choose
3

You get matched to a real CA

From a small handful of CAs we've personally checked and trust — not an open list of random names.

Setulfo
4

The CA takes over

Setulfo hands them your paperwork already sorted and organised, so they can start working right away instead of asking you to dig everything up.

CA
5

A simple, upfront fee

If you become their client, the CA pays Setulfo a small fixed fee for the introduction. It never comes out of your money, and you're told about it beforehand.

Setulfo ↔ CA
How the money works

A simple flat fee — not a cut of the CA's earnings

We looked into the rules CAs have to follow before deciding on this. The short version: a CA is allowed to pay someone for sending them a client, as long as it's told to the client openly. But CAs are told to stay away from anything shaped like "pay us a % of whatever you earn from this client" — that gets too close to rules they're not allowed to break. So we picked the simpler, safer option instead.

✓ What we're doing

  • One fixed fee per referral — a set rupee amount, not a percentage of anything
  • The CA pays it, only after you become their client — never taken from your money
  • You're told upfront — one plain sentence before you're ever connected to a CA
  • A small, hand-picked group of CAs we trust — not a big open directory

✕ What we're staying away from

  • Taking a % of what the CA charges you — too close to rules CAs aren't allowed to break
  • Building an open "list your CA here" style directory — CAs aren't allowed to advertise certain work that way
  • Any fee we don't tell you about — being upfront about it isn't optional, it's the whole point
  • Touching the money your client pays you — that stays completely separate, always
One honest note: this is our best understanding of the rules right now, not a lawyer's final sign-off. Before this feature goes live, we'll get someone who knows CA rules well to check our exact wording and paperwork — the rules were only just updated, so we want to double check nothing's been missed.
In Development

Actively building & validating — step by step

We are currently in active development, building out the platform while gathering direct feedback from freelancers. Rather than shipping assumptions, we are refining each phase to ensure it solves the exact compliance headaches you face.

⚙️

In Development: User Workflows

Building the end-to-end freelancer and CA integration flow to keep compliance handoffs smooth and error-free.

🤝

Phase 1: Vetted Partner Network

Onboarding a curated group of verified CAs specializing in export of services and foreign remittance compliance.

🚀

Phase 2: Automated Match & Handoff

Rolling out smart matching and automated document handoffs directly within the Setulfo dashboard.

Status: Core features are currently under active development and being tested with early users before general availability.
Business model

Priced the way Indians actually pay

Indians resist flat fees for "convenience" but happily pay when software removes fear or is tied to money and deadlines. So we price around outcomes, not vibes.

Free

Correct invoices + basic reminders. Gets people in the door.

₹499 /mo

The full co-pilot: FIRA matching, LUT tracking, filing-ready packets, dashboard.

CA / Agency

Sell to CAs & agencies managing many freelancers — per-client pricing.

Bigger later: The same product serves US/UK freelancers at a flat $/month — India is the starting point, not the ceiling. Exact prices are guesses until interviews confirm them — that's what the pricing test in the signup form below is for.
The path

Start tiny. Widen deliberately.

The co-pilot

AI document-reading + invoices + LUT/deadlines + filing packet for Indian freelancers.

Phase 2

CAs & agencies

Multi-client dashboard, plus Setulfo Connect — the referral layer connecting freelancers to vetted CAs.

Phase 3

Go global

Same engine, new rule-sets: US (1099s), UK (VAT). India was the beachhead.

Guiding rule: resist building everything at once. One sharp problem, solved completely, for one reachable group — then expand.
In one breath

Setulfo removes the fear from earning abroad.

Indians who earn in dollars have a real, recurring, scary problem — and a real budget. Setulfo is the co-pilot that handles the boring, high-stakes paperwork automatically, without touching their money or replacing their accountant. India first, the world next.
